Who's Who - Meet The Committee
Phillip Duke - Chair
Phillip Duke is a professional principal scientist with a career spanning over 35 years. This has involved acting in a technical partner, consulting and definition role for research projects.
As an example, one of four Task leaders for a Commission of European Communities part-funded four-year collaborative research programme. Liaised with the other ten members of the consortium to achieve the common goals of the project.
Skill set is extensive, those pertinent to role are: Identify potential projects and opportunities; Plan for effective project implementation; Communicate with others at all levels; Present and discuss proposals; Comply with relevant codes of conduct; Exercise responsibilities in an ethical manner
Jane Attwood Msc - Vice Chair
A Social Worker by profession, Jane completed her first degree with the Open University and later studied for a Social Work Diploma followed by an MSc at Royal Holloway, University of London. She has worked in Adult Social Care for over twenty-four years.
Jane enjoys pub social life as much as delicious beer and feels passionately about the creeping loss of the unique pub culture of the UK.
She has been a member of CAMRA for seventeen years.
Jane is interested in all kinds of music and dance and enjoys country walks, good food and messing around in the garden. She lives in Bentley, near Farnham.
Peter Broberg BSc MIET - Treasurer
Peter, a Yorkshireman and therefore “careful”, was educated at Woking Boys’ Grammar School before obtaining a degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Loughborough University.
His 37 year career in engineering included Electronic Design, Production Support, Configuration Management and Integrated Logistic Support.
An active life member of CAMRA, Peter has been a director of Farnham Beerex since 1995 and treasurer of Woking Beer Festival since 1994.
He has an engineering eye for detail, but can also see the bigger picture. Peter has been resident in Aldershot for over 17 years and enjoys good company, Real Ale and Real pubs.
Philip Hill - Secretary
Philip (Phil) has worked in both catering and IT since starting his career in 1988. Phil’s main field of experience as a Network Architect which he’s been advising various Global IT companies with since 2006. In doing so Phil’s passed many technical exams related to Information System Strategy, Network Design and Architecture & Project frameworks and has both designed and supported a variety of both defence and healthcare connectivity projects.
Currently Phil works in a Cyber security role ensuring his employers I.T. solutions remain complaint with various governing bodies. Previously however he’s worked as an Executive Deal Lead, a Network engineer and also an operations manager setting up and running technical support desks for organisations supporting their local users.
Other than IT, Phil enjoys brewing craft beer as a hobby, dancing Modern Jive, sampling Real Ales and attending pub quizzes
Unfortunately and as a knock on effect of Covid-19 I have had to change my occupation. As such it is no longer possible for me to commit to conducting the duties of secretary in the way the campaign deserves. I would like to invite anyone with a few hours a month to spare; and a willingness for administrative work to volunteer to take over from myself. I will be more than happy to spend some time providing both advice and insights to anyone volunteering to replace me in this capacity.
Kevin Travers - Pubs Policy Expert
Kevin is a transport planner who has enjoyed a long career in local government encouraging investment and supporting sustainable transport in Hampshire and Surrey.
Kevin also loves pubs and what they give to their local communities. As the Pubs Officer for CAMRA in the area, his intricate knowledge of government processes and the planning system has been invaluable ensuring that Rushmoor Council’s pub protection policies are adhered to and the planning applications to convert the White Lion into flats have been refused.
He is always happy to sit down with a pint and chat about pubs and beer.
Steve Taylor - Social Media
I am the Social Media editor for the Aldershot Community Pub Limited. Like the other committee members I have considered the White Lion my local for some years. After a three decade career in retail management I now manage a timber mill where bespoke designs are created for the trade and advanced DIY market.
Like you all, I am saddened by the loss of public houses in Aldershot which have closed in recent years and am opposed to any enterprise which would turn these valuable community hubs into yet more flats thus erasing many decades of culture and kinship offered by them. To that end I devote any time I have available to campaigning and helping reverse the current status of this great pub The White Lion.
Within the committee, we have many skills between us but we still can’t do it alone. More than ever now – we strongly urge you to get in touch and volunteer in whatever way you can, to help us as we continue to fight for the pub and get our share scheme operational so we can buy this pub and keep it for the community.
